Our service is part of the Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
We are a Driving Mobility accredited service that works in partnership with the NHS, Department for Transport (DfT), Motability and the Driving and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).
We carry out assessments and give advice on the following:
- Driving ability
- Disabled driving assessments
- Vehicle adaptations
- Drive from wheelchair
- Vehicle access
- Wheelchair/scooter stowage
- Seating and posture
- Mobility scooters
Driving assessments will usually take about two hours but may be slightly longer or shorter than this depending on your needs.
The driving assessment has 2 main parts:
This will look at your medical history, physical and visual abilities. If you are unable to meet the visual standard, we will be unable to complete the assessment.
This part of the assessment may focus on whether a medical condition affects your ability to drive safely or if adaptations are necessary to enable you to operate the controls successfully. Assessments are conducted in the centre’s vehicles.
There are occasions when having completed our assessment process, we recommend people should not drive for safety reasons; this could be a permanent or temporary situation. We will discuss our recommendations with you on the day of assessment after the drive.
