Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Trust wins the contract to manage Willaston Surgery

From 1 July 2014, Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Trust (Bridgewater) took over the management of Willaston Surgery on Neston Road.

This change of management is as a result of a rigorous commissioning process carried out by NHS England prior to the retirement of Lead GP Dr Meyer who previously retained the contract.

Bridgewater is a leading provider of NHS community health services to over 800,000 people in the north west of England. The majority of its services are delivered in patients’ homes or at locations close to where they live, such as clinics, health centres, GP practices, community centres and schools.

The trust is extremely committed to providing high quality, safe and effective care that meets the needs of both individual patients and the local communities in which it works.

Dr Stephen Ward, Medical Director for Bridgewater said:

“We want to reassure the local community that the day to day running of the surgery will not be affected during this change over period. The surgery will operate the same appointment booking system and there will also be no changes to the telephone number for the surgery. The only significant change patients can expect is weekend opening hours from early 2015.

“We are very much looking forward to working closely with the surgery’s current GPs Dr Richard Martin, Dr Diane Taylor and Dr Mustafa Hassan as well as the administrative staff who will all continue to work at the practice. The Trust is also currently in the process of recruiting a new GP and Practice Manager to replace Dr Meyer and the recently retired Practice Manager Sue King.

“As the Medical Director for Bridgewater with a 25 year background as a GP, I am looking forward to meeting patients, representatives from partner organisations, community groups and local Government in Willaston and the surrounding area. I am keen to share our future vision for the surgery and I am eager to hear the views of the local community regarding the current service they receive and what they think can be improved.”

Bridgewater is working towards becoming an NHS Foundation Trust which means the Trust will have greater freedom and flexibility to determine how it delivers its services. Through membership Bridgewater will listen to the views and opinions of local people and give them the opportunity to influence decisions.
