Following four years nursing at St Thomas hospital, Dorothy furthered experience of working with disabled and disadvantaged children by developing playgrounds for HAPA (Handicapped Adventure Playground Assoc).She undertook Relief Field work for Save the Children Fund in Vietnam and Montserrat and managed the Social Services Family Centre in Hammersmith.Returning to the North West in 1980, Dorothy developed voluntary sector organisations in Greater Manchester and Halton for Councils for Voluntary Service (CVS).In 1990, she moved to post as an advisor on Community Care issues to supported housing providers and then specifically developed care options for older people with ANCHOR Trust.
Her final paid employment was as Chief Officer of the CVS in Blackburn with Darwen.
Retiring in 2005, Dorothy currently undertakes voluntary work as Trustee of Child Action North West.
