The General Duty of The Equality Act 2010 requires public authorities to have ‘due regard’ to three aims – to eliminate unlawful discrimination, to advance equality of opportunity and to foster good relations. The equality analysis of services allows the Trust to demonstrate that steps are being taken to meet the above three aims.
An equality analysis is intended to focus attention on assessing what barriers service users or staff may face. These barriers could, potentially, adversely affect their health outcomes and experience of the service. From this analysis we can decide what practical actions need to be taken to minimise or eliminate these barriers.
